Brand Identity System

Simplicis

Simplicis builds software for labs that deal with complexity every day. The challenge was to create a brand that brings clarity to that complexity without feeling cold or overly technical. The result is a flexible identity system that supports both the platform and its growing ecosystem, while staying grounded in something recognizable and human.

The Challenge

Simplicis was ready for a new identity, but this wasn’t a blank slate. Over time, the platform had developed its own visual language, especially around the use of triangles across the interface and icon system. While the existing brand felt limited, those patterns had become familiar to users.

At the same time, the company was expanding. Ledger, their flagship platform, needed to exist as its own product while still clearly belonging to the Simplicis ecosystem.

The challenge was to modernize the brand without losing recognition, and to build a system that could scale as the product grew.

The Approach

Instead of starting over, the identity builds on what was already working. Familiar elements were refined and brought into a more intentional system so the brand would feel consistent across product, marketing, and real-world applications.

The introduction of the cardinal anchors the brand in something more human. It connects back to Simplicis’s Midwest roots while reinforcing ideas of stability and adaptability. The goal was to balance structure with approachability, so the brand feels technical when it needs to, but never intimidating.

Identity System

The system is built around a simple idea. Structure first, expression second.

A softer typeface brings clarity and accessibility, offsetting the technical nature of the platform. The triangular motif is carried forward and refined so it can scale across interfaces, icons, and supporting materials without becoming repetitive.

Supporting elements stay in the background. Subtle patterns and textures echo the cardinal and its movement, adding depth without distracting from the content. Everything is designed to work together quietly.

Brand Expression

The identity is built on clarity and restraint. The mark is intentionally simple, allowing it to remain legible and recognizable across digital interfaces, printed materials, and environmental applications.

Strong triangular forms echo the visual language already present throughout the platform, creating continuity between the brand and product experience. Within the mark, the cardinal’s chest subtly suggests an “S,” reinforcing the name without relying on a literal monogram.

Every element is designed to support recognition through repetition rather than novelty. The goal is a system that feels familiar, dependable, and easy to deploy across a growing ecosystem.

Product Ecosystem

Ledger extends the system as a distinct product, using the birdhouse form to represent security and the safe handling of data.

Simplicis stays intentionally neutral, built around a restrained palette with a primary brand cardinal  red. Ledger introduces a broader color system, creating separation while remaining connected and ready to scale to additional products and variations.

The Real World

The identity was designed to hold up in environments where clarity matters most. From product interfaces to physical touchpoints, the system stays consistent without feeling repetitive.

Applications range from printed materials to digital experiences, each one reinforcing the same underlying structure. The goal was not to create one strong visual, but a system that performs reliably across many.

Impact

The result is a brand that gives Simplicis room to grow without losing its identity. The system brings consistency across product, marketing, and real-world applications, while still maintaining elements that existing users recognize.

It is structured enough to scale, but flexible enough to evolve as the platform expands.
